By July, we realized that work and life would always be a balancing act. Waiting for the “perfect time” wasn’t an option—we had to move forward. First on the list? Visas. If you’re interested in learning how to apply yourself without third-party assistance, you can find all the details here, down below.
As Romanians, we needed a U.S. visa, and when I checked the embassy website, the earliest available interview was in January 2025. Far too late for our plans, as we intended to be back home by spring to enroll Markus in school.
Undeterred, we applied for the visas, paid the fees, and booked the January appointment. Then, thanks to a Facebook group called Viza de Turist SUA, we learned you could reschedule appointments twice. I began obsessively checking the scheduling page and, within two weeks, found an opening in August 2024.
After a good night’s sleep in our trusty Sprinter van parked in Parcul Casa Albă (fittingly translating to “White House Park”), we felt one step closer to making this dream a reality.
The road ahead still had challenges, but we were ready to tackle them together—one trail, one decision, one day at a time.
